What are Sturklings?
Sturnurks Vulgarurks
The Sturklings are a wild bird species that live all over the world, but Sturkling HQ is based on the Urkney Isles, somewhere off the west coast of the UK. It is here, in the Urkney Isles that Sid tries to maintain the survival of his species against all the odds with his best pal Sheppie.
Adults also known as 'Sturks' or 'Sturkies'. Young Sturklings are known as 'Sturklets' or 'youngsturks'.
Feeding Sturklings:
Sturklings eat almost anything, so any food you put out in your garden should be fine, whether it be wild bird feed or kitchen scraps. However, they do have a passion for Dairylea Triangles. This is specific to Sturklings and not recommended for other garden birds.
Drink:
Water is good. Very good, in fact. Ensuring a fresh supply of water will keep the Sturklings going for many episodes to come. However, they are partial to Heather Brew (HB) and if you can find some of this in the local supermarket, you will be guaranteed a Sturkling party at your place.
Language/Communication:
Sturklings use the expression 'URK' a lot. It even gets attached to their words. Their 'Urk' language is not always prescriptive. Just as humans have different languages and dialects, so do Sturklings. Generally speaking, any word that can include a 'urk' and still sound a bit like the word, will include a 'urk'.
Try making up some URK words of your own. It can be fun when there's nothing on the Television worth watching and it is too cold or wet to go out.
Here is a few to start you off: Actualurky, Obviousurkly, Nevurk, Whenevurk, Whatevurk.......go on, have some fun.
THE STURKLING ANTHEM (to the tune of 'The Red Flag' - not for any political or historical reasons, just because most people know the tune)
The Sturkling Flag flies spangled bright,
To symbolise The Sturkling Way.
We're smart and sly and we can fight -
To all our enemies' dismay.
O sturklings rise from shore to shore,
Fresh countryside and cities' murk;
Our foes will flee and fight no more -
All banished with a mighty URK !!!
Chorus
So come on down The Thirsty Sturk,
We'll raise a glass of warm HB,
To celebrate our lifelong work -
Sturks in perpetuity.
